Every Wednesday the Welcome Bus is parked between Paisley Abbey and Renfrewshire Council Buildings. Its purpose is to provide an 'a cup of tea and listening ear to lonely people'. In an environment not
dissimilar to a living room, conversations often turn to prayer.
Many of the visitors, but not all, have problems related to drug or alcohol abuse and despite the fact that few
of the staff have personal experience of addiction we have gained the trust and respect of many who frequent the Bus. The staff are made up of Christians from various churches in and around Paisley.
There is no doubt that Jesus is the initiator of this ministry. Both staff and visitors are often encouraged despite the gravity of some of the problems faced.
Sometimes we are able find accomodation in a rehab for those who would benefit from this option, other times we are able to direct to other sources of assistance, most often we help with regular contact and encouragement.
A handful have come to know a personal relationship with Jesus for themselves. Overall we are able to compliment the work done by other agencies.
The Renfrewshire Council have given several grants toward this project
