YWAM Paisley
Youth With A Mission (or YWAM) is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus Christ personally to this generation, to be mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. As citizens of God's kingdom, we are called to love, worship and obey our Lord, to love and serve His body the church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole man throughout the world.
Founded in 1960, YWAM Internationally now has over 12,000 full time staff and 32,000 short term workers. These volunteers work in nearly 770 permanent ministry locations in over 136 nations worldwide. We see our calling in three main areas:
Evangelism - reaching the lost with the Gospel of Christ by using a combination of traditional methods and any new cutting edge approach that is effective.
Training - equipping the body of Christ and preparing it for Christ's ultimate return, that we might know God then make Him known.
Mercy Ministries - touching a hurting world with practical aid and relief using whatever practical skills and materials God provides to show compassion and love to those in need just as Jesus did.
Within the UK and Ireland, YWAM has over 300 volunteers serving local communities through youth work, pregnancy and AIDS counselling, drug rehabilitation, training and friendship evangelism to name just a few. From Stanely House in Paisley, Scotland, YWAMers are a group of 30 Christians who work together to serve Christ through our varied outreaches. 'Wee Friends Preschool' is our primary outreach to the under 5 crowd and their parents. For the last nine years, we have ministered to hundreds of local youngsters giving them a Biblically based start to their education. Caledonia Counselling provides trained counsellors to listen to those hurting within our community. We are in involved with individual counselling as well as group work with our 'lncy Wincy' mum's and toddlers group. Our work with youth has two main focuses. The first being to the unchurched through our PlayPeace programme. PlayPeace aims to take church in the form of Sunday School to the streets during the week. Fun and upbeat, workers share Christ in Ferguslie Park on a weekly basis. This is followed up with individual weekly visits to the homes of those children who attend. Our second youth focus is to those within the church. Firestarters aims to inspire churched youth to get out and do something within their community and to the ends of the earth. The youth are challenged to lead out within the group. We want to see others won to Christ through drama, dance, sports, clowning and environmental projects. Our desire in YWAM Paisley is to partner with the local church to see revival come to Renfrewshire and for that fire to spread around the world.
